Overview

Signals is an observability and insights feature for proactively surfacing critical issues, potential problems, and future degradations across your Kafka clusters.

Some facts about Signals (Alpha):

  • Opinionated by design: rather than making you tune thresholds yourself, Signals ships with sensible defaults for each check based on our experience operating Kafka clusters. We are looking at introducing configurable thresholds in Factor Platform.
  • Point-in-time issues: the issues view reflects the cluster's latest state. We're looking at adding the ability to go back in time in Factor Platform.
  • Over time metrics: health score and issue counts are also recorded as metrics, so you can see trends alongside the current cluster state.
  • Tenancy-driven visibility: Signals fully supports multi-tenancy model.
Early access (Alpha)

Signals is an early access feature and is disabled by default. To opt in, set the SNAPSHOT_SIGNALS environment variable to true on your Kpow instance.

  • Performance: once enabled, Signals may introduce performance overhead under large loads.
  • In active development: the feature is still evolving and will continue to be improved as we go — behaviour, thresholds, and views may change between releases.
  • Feedback welcome: we'd love to hear any and all feedback on Signals — please get in touch through your usual support channel.
